  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is one of the greatest engraved mess kits we have ever offered. Featuring a profile of Mussolini under America’s boot as well as the long travel diary of the soldier, Francis J. Mazur, who served overseas during World War II.

The mess kit is gorgeously engraved on the lid with an American Flag behind a shield with the soldier’s name, F.J. MAZUR, along with some locations including Isle of “Capri”, Anzio, Arno Fiume, Volturna River July 21 1944. Around this shield are a plethora of other locations and dates, May 13, 1943 (Enlistment date?), Pisa, North Afrcia, Oran, Capua, Bizerte, Naples, Italy, Caserta, Santa Maria, Florence, Caiaza, Roma, Alcier, Tunisia, and Messina.

The bottom of the mess kit depicts the profile of Benito Mussolini with German Swas’s on his hat and collar. A boot labeled US is pressed against his face with the caption below reading:

    “LATERN JAWED
    SPAGHETTI SLINGIN’
    “MUSSO” THE BEAT
    UP DOG”

Below this is a depiction of a U.S. soldier, likely Mazur, with “VIVA LA AMERICANO” below it. There’s also a depiction of a bomb reading TO BERLIN. On the sides of the mess kit are the camps Mazur trained at, including CAMP PERRY, OHIO MAY 21, 1943, CAMP SHELBY MISSISSIPPI MAY 23RD, FT. GEORGE MEADE 6-6-44, and CAMP PATRICK HENRY 6-26-44.

This is an absolutely stupendous mess kit, made only better by being dated 1918, meaning this may have gone overseas once before during World War I, only to be reissued again during World War II. The mess kit also contains a fork and spoon, marked US but undated. This mess kit has a ton of character and will become one of the centerpieces of any U.S. WWII collection. Comes ready for further research and display!
