Original Item: One-of-a-Kind. Theater knives are knives made by military personnel in the various theaters of war. Each knife is unique in its own way due to the maker's style, preferences and materials available. Most theater knives were made from spare parts, wreckage, tools and already existing blades.

These knives were made by the armorers and engineers on request. The larger ships needed to have skilled fabricators on board to make repairs and modifications to weapons and gear. Usually the blades were made from existing weapons or from steel components, and the hilts were cast from metals such as aluminum or zinc.

This is a very lovely theater-made “knuckle knife” made in the very well-known Everitt Style, with a high degree of accuracy. The 7” blade mimics the mid-blade fuller of the Everitt, with this example’s fuller protruding fully from the ricasso, instead of starting ⅓ of the way up. The aluminum hilt is cast in a shape extremely similar to that of the Everitt, with the same cross-hatched area under the finger holes, and the same squared bumps on the knuckles.

The single-edged blade appears to have been heavily buffed, with evidence of past oxidation having been cleaned away, and there is still some evidence of the buffing compound along the edge. Normal Everitt’s are double-edged, so we’re unsure why this one was only given a single edge. There is some oxidation forming in the fuller as shown.

The cast aluminum hilt is in fantastic condition, with the Everitt shape still easily recognizable. This looks like a classic case of copying a fellow soldier’s brand-name Everitt knife, and this example was very-well done. The overall length is 11¾”, which is correct for the Everitt knife, although the blade of this example is ¼” longer than the brand-name Everitt, so that extra fourth had to be made up in the hilt.

The correct scabbard for these knives are almost rarer than the knife itself, as they are often degraded or lost. Despite being a copy of an Everitt, this scabbard appears to be or may be a perfect period copy of the Everitt scabbard. The original leather sheath is entirely correct for an Everitt Knife, with the 6 staples on the throat, along with 10 round side rivets, and the metal plate on the BACK of the scabbard. The design is somewhat like the M6 leather scabbard, but definitely has some important differences, as can be seen. The scabbard is in amazing pliable condition with no visible damage, and the securing strap & snap is very well retained.

A great chance to pick up a very nice example of a rare WWII Knuckle knife. Ready to add to your edged weapon collection!
