Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. During World War II, the Army Corps of Engineers in the European Theater of Operations was responsible for building numerous bridges, including the first and longest floating tactical bridge across the Rhine at Remagen, and building or maintaining roads vital to the Allied advance across Europe into the heart of Germany. In the Pacific theater, the "Pioneer troops" were formed, a hand-selected unit of volunteer Army combat engineers trained in jungle warfare, knife fighting, and unarmed jujitsu (hand-to-hand combat) techniques. Working in camouflage, the Pioneers cleared jungle, prepared routes of advance and established bridgeheads for the infantry, as well as demolishing enemy installations.

The Ike jacket is in near pristine, well cared for condition. The size is a 38 Large and features a lovely “Screaming Eagle” Old Abe patch with Airborne rocker on the left sleeve. There is a beautiful addition to the patch as it was bordered with section of Scarlet Rid/White piping, most likely taken from an extra overseas cap. Old Abe, a bald eagle, was the mascot of the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the American Civil War. Later, his image was adopted as the eagle appearing on a globe in Case Corporation's logo and as the screaming eagle on the insignia of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division.

Other features on the uniform include 4 overseas bars. The collars have the standard “US” and “Castle” discs. The only award present on the uniform aside from the Presidential Unit Citation is the CIB. Above the CIB is a lovely red oval for the Corps of Engineers and a set of beautiful jump wings. The oval was also personalized with the addition of the piping as a border. The right breast pocket has a Ruptured Duck patch.
