Original Item. Only One Set Available. This is a great WWII Army 2nd Model HBT Herringbone Twill uniform set worn by a Paratrooper during World War II. The back of the jacket is inscribed with a set of Paratrooper wings, which looks great. There are a few small collection tags on the pants, one of which reads “TWO BAG POCKETS IS THE PARATROOP STYLE OF TROUSER”. Another tag reads “N-SSR 10-3-87 C.KLEIN I:SS”, denoting where the collector bought the set in 1987.
There is a washed out tag in the right breast pocket of the jacket, now entirely illegible. This is the second model of HBT uniform, introduced in late 1942 to streamline manufacturing and fix flaws found in the 1941 1st Pattern. It became one of the most widely issued utility and hot-climate combat garments used by American GIs across the European and Pacific theaters.
There appears to be a very faint laundry number stamped on the exterior waist of the trousers, possibly reading S-6507? It is very difficult to read.
The paratrooper wings on the back of the jacket is absolutely of the period, with some minor detailing in the wings but nothing too detailed. The insignia measures roughly 4 ½ x 10”.
The combination of the 2nd Model HBT construction, two-pocket trousers, period-drawn parachutist wings, faint laundry marking, surviving interior label, and 1987 collector documentation makes this an especially interesting WWII Airborne uniform grouping.
