Original Item. Only One Available. The 106th Infantry Division is a very sought-after unit due to their tragic defeat & capture at the Battle of the Bulge, where two of its three regiments were overrun and surrounded in the initial days of the battle, being forced to surrender to German forces on 19 December 1944. The division's 422nd and 423rd Infantry Regiments were encircled and cut off by a junction of enemy forces in the vicinity of Schönberg. They regrouped for a counterattack, but were blocked by the enemy. The two regiments surrendered on 19 December. The Germans gained 6,000 prisoners in one of the largest mass surrenders in American military history.
This is a great Ike Jacket to a Corporal having served with the 106th ID and later the 3rd ID. The jacket has a 3rd ID patch on the left shoulder, 106th ID patch on the right shoulder, Corporal chevrons on both sleeves and one oversea stripe on the left cuff. There is a Presidential Unit Citation with a frame over the right breast pocket, a Combat Infantryman Badge over the left breast pocket, and under this is a five-place ribbon bar with the WWII Victory Medal, the WWII Occupation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with two campaign stars. There is also a French fourragère cord on the left shoulder.
The interior of the jacket has the laundry number M3487 stamped twice, a good research project. There is also a size tag under the collar, 36L. The interior pocket also has a tag with a July 1944 contract date.
This is a great ike jacket with some research potential. Comes ready for further research and display!
