Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very nice officer’s uniform worn by a Major in the 101st Airborne Division who was not trained as a paratrooper. The jacket has a very scarce white tongue 101st Airborne patch and rocker on the left shoulder. The interior has a name tag, naming the jacket to “Herbert Wn Thompson”, and dated 3/5/43. The jacket was tailored by Smith-Gray of New York.
The jacket is missing three of the front closure buttons. There is US & Infantry officer’s collar insignia, and Major oak leafs on each shoulder board. On the left breast pocket is a STERLING marked Combat Infantryman Badge, and over the pocket is a seven-place ribbon bar with the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal with three campaign stars, the WWII Victory medal, and the American Defense medal.
There is no other marking on the interior, but the jacket is in good condition overall. We were unable to identify Herbert Wn Thompson, though it is possible Wm was misspelled as Wn and the middle name is William, though we found no matches for this name either.
A good 101st Airborne officer’s uniform, ready for further research and display.
