Original Item. Only One Available. This is an M1910 Officer’s visor cap in very good condition with all original parts. The cap shows heavy service use but is still in great shape after so many years.
The turn of the century marked a uniform change for the Army. The M-1910 service uniform, issued for work and field use, was the service’s first uniform that was solely one color. It was olive drab green wool in the winter like this one and khaki cotton in the summer. This uniform change was the first time that a blue coat or trousers was not issued as a service uniform. By the time the U.S. entered WWI, the winter service uniform had become the standard field and combat uniform choice for the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe.
This M-1910 peaked visor is constructed in lovely green wool and is in good condition for its age, though there are scattered moth nips present, especially on the crown. The thin brown leather decorative chinstrap is complete and in rather solid condition. The tarnished brass buttons on the side are the correct early Federal Eagle “general service” buttons. The front insignia is a lovely example of an officer’s cap device. The interior features a lovely leather sweatband which is complete in appearance but has lost a good bit of its stitching in certain spots, but is still attached well to the hat. There is a maker mark for De Moulin Bros & Co. of Greenville, Illinois. There is a size tag over the maker’s mark, 7.
This is a good example of an early model visor which is growing increasingly difficult to find in today’s market, and to find one in this condition is a rarity.
