  • Original Item. Only One Available. A bayonet carriage is a specialized belt or strap system used to hold a bayonet scabbard, often worn over the shoulder (baldric) or attached to a waist belt.

This is an outstanding American example of a socket bayonet carriage dating to the War of 1812 period. The carriage consists of a tarred leather piece at the end with a horizontal slit hole and a vertical slit with a hole at the bottom for the attachment of a bayonet/scabbard. The rest of the carriage is a long woven canvas sling.

When laid out, the carriage measures 28 ½” long, and the sling is roughly 2” wide. The leather end piece has heavy cracking and is very stiff, understandable for a piece 200+ years old. The canvas is covered with staining and other blemishes but is still solid overall.

A gorgeous War of 1812 era bayonet carriage, ready for use or display.
