  • Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Grouping. This is the outstanding and extensive uniform, flight helmet, medal, and ephemera grouping of Captain and later Major Glen P. Goffin, who flew well over 100 combat missions as a B-52 Pilot with the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Goffin was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and several more decorations for his service in Vietnam. The grouping includes his uniform with his full ribbon bar & Sterling Pilots wings, garrison cap & trousers, camouflaged HGU-26/P flight helmet with oxygen mask, his B-52 checklist, his medals, and a great deal of documents and other ephemeral items.

Goffin’s Distinguished Flying Cross Citation reads:

Major Glen P. Goffin distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 Aircraft Commander, 307th Strategic Wing, U-Tapao Airfield, Thailand, on 1 October 1971. On that date, Major Goffin, flying the lead aircraft on this vital interdiction mission, overcame adverse weather conditions, aircraft malfunctions and airborne emergencies to deliver his ordnance with pinpoint accuracy, totally destroying a key enemy re-supply center. Major Goffin's clearly outstanding and exceptional job knowledge and skill have contributed directly to the Strategic Air Command's mission in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Goffin reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    This fantastic grouping includes:

    - Goffin’s Air Force officer’s uniform with Major rank insignia on the shoulders, US collar insignia, Pilot’s wings over the left breast pocket, and an 11-place ribbon bar with the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with one Silver and two Bronze OLCs, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with OLC, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Combat Readiness Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with three campaign stars, the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Republic Of Vietnam Campaign Medal with a “60-” device. The uniform is not named. Also included are Goffin’s matching trousers in good shape.
    - Goffin’s camouflaged HGU-26/P flight helmet with Dual Visor and Avionics. There is also an oxygen mask still attached. Both the clear and tinted visors are retained but the interior shows heavy wear of the material.
    - Goffin’s Garrison cap with a Major rank insignia. There is heavy mothing to this cap.
    - Goffin’s 42d Bombardment Wing B-52 Checklist with 7 attached Certificates issuing him and his crew their Revolvers, Model 38 Smith & Wessons. This is a really outstanding piece!
