Original Items. Only One Lot Available. This is an excellent lot of nine different U.S. Navy flat hat tallies for use by the Navy during the Pre-WWI and WWI period. All tallies have ship names and come with a small amount of research information on the ship.
The ships include:
- TWO EXAMPLES USS Delaware (BB-28) was a dreadnought battleship of the United States Navy, the lead ship of her class. She was laid down at Newport News Shipbuilding in November 1907, launched in January 1909, and completed in April 1910. The sixth ship to be named for the First State, Delaware was armed with a main battery of ten 12-inch (305 mm) guns all on the centerline, making her the most powerful battleship in the world at the time of her construction. She was also the first battleship of the US Navy to be capable of steaming at full speed for 24 continuous hours without suffering a breakdown.
- USS Colorado - This is a rare early white colored example with anchors. Hull number BB-45, was a battleship of the United States Navy that was in service from 1923 to 1947. She was the lead ship of the Colorado class of battleships. Her keel was laid down on 29 May 1919, by the New York Shipbuilding Corporation. She was launched on 22 March 1921, and commissioned on 30 August 1923. She was armed with eight 16-inch (406 mm) guns and fourteen 5-inch (127 mm) deck guns; two 5-inch guns were removed in an overhaul.
- USS Suzanne (SP-510) was a United States Navy patrol vessel in commission from 1917 to 1918. Suzanne was built as the private motor yacht Cristina in 1908 by George Lawley & Son at Neponset, Massachusetts, for Frederick C. Fletcher of Boston, Massachusetts. She later was renamed Esperanza, then Jorosa, and then Suzanne. On 18 May 1917, the U.S. Navy acquired Suzanne from her owner – by then F. M. Kirby of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania – for use as a section patrol boat during World War I. She was commissioned as USS Suzanne (SP-510) the same day. Assigned to the 4th Naval District, Suzanne served on patrol duties there for the remainder of World War I.
- USS Missouri (hull number: BB-11), a Maine-class battleship, was the second ship of her class and of the United States Navy to be named in honor of the 24th state. Missouri was laid down in February 1900 at the Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Company, was launched in December 1901, and was commissioned into the fleet in December 1903. She was armed with a main battery of four 12-inch (305 mm) guns and could steam at a top speed of 18 knots (33 km/h; 21 mph).
