Original Item. Only One Available. The HGU-39/P is a chemical, biological, oxygen helmet and mask used in the 1980s. The basis of the HGU-39/P is an SPH-4 helmet without the visor cover. Cast aluminum oxygen mask receivers and Air Force communication components complete the basic helmet. A chemical hood can also be laced over the helmet and mask. This is just the basic helmet without any of the attachments.
This is a good unissued example of the HGU-39/P flight helmet in its original box, without any of its components. There are headphones, and the helmet retains its data tag:
HELMET, FLYER’S HGU-39/P
SIZE: X-LARGE
STOCK NO. 8415-01-040-3128
CONTRACT DLA_100-78-C-0898
LOT NO. -2-
SUPPLIER GENTEX CORP.
The tag shows a manufacture date of 1978. The helmet’s suspension is in good shape, and the box retains the original pack of earcup spacers for the HGU-39/P. The original box measures 12¼ x 11¼ x 10½” and retains the maker GENTEX information, but the bottom of the box is opening a bit. It could use new tape. The box has a date of 1/79 for January 1979.
A lovely example in the original box, ready for further research and display.
