Original Item. Only One Available. The Convair B-36 "Peacemaker" was a piston-engined strategic bomber built by Convair and operated by the United States Air Force's Strategic Air Command from 1948 to 1959. With 384 units built, the B-36 remains the largest mass-produced piston-engined aircraft, and has the longest wingspan of any combat aircraft. The B-36 was capable of intercontinental flight without refueling.
This is a lovely example of a B-36 “Peacemaker” heavy bomber ashtray, with a great glass ashtray insert. The ashtray was manufactured for Consolidated by the Allyn Sales Company of Los Angeles, California (Allyn Sales manufactured such items for various aircraft manufacturers to use as public relations gifts to military personnel or to people who worked on the aircraft).
The bar that holds the bomber up appears to have been replaced during the period, with screws used to attach them as shown. The original glass ashtray insert is still intact, rare to see as they fell out and broke very easily.
The ashtray is approximately 8 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches tall. The B-36 model itself is 7 1/4 inches long and 10 1/2 inches wide. The B-36 bomber was powered by six propellers as well as jet engines. The engines were attached in two pods, with one fastened under the outer area of each wing. On this model, both jet engines are retained, but four of the propellers are missing one blade each. The top of the plane has an Air Force roundel on one side of the wing.
A very rare example, ready for display.
