  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a signed print of “The Beginning of the End” by William S. Phillips, signed at the bottom by five crew members of the Enola Gay, including Pilot Paul W. Tibbets and Navigator Theodore J. Van Kirk. The frame is well-put together and the print is very clear. There are six additional signatures with this piece as well. This is a limited run print, number 975 out of 1000. The frame comes with the original page showing the description of the print and its run, and the original protector that the print was shipped in when it was originally purchased from the Greenwich Workshop.

The flight of the Enola Gay and the capture of the island of Iwo Jima, were two of the most significant events of World War II. William Phillips wanted, in some small way, to pay tribute to those who captured that island fortress even as he paid homage to the United States Army Air Forces and the crew of the Enola Gay for the mission. Both events hastened the end of the war and made the invasion of the Japanese homeland unnecessary.

The frame measures 28 ¼ x 30 ¼” and is in great shape. The print itself is signed by Phillips and was countersigned by Paul Tibbets, Thomas W. Ferebee, Theodore VanKirk, Morris R. Jeppson, and Richard H. Nelson.

The frame also has six additional signatures including Robert A. Lewis, Co-Pilot, George R. Caron, Tail Gunner, Jacob Beser, Electronic Countermeasures, Wyatt Duzenbury, Flight Engineer, Joseph Stiborik, Radio Operator, and John J. Lesniewski, part of the Ground Crew, an A&E Mechanic.

An outstanding print with some very well-known signatures, ready for further research and display!
