Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very interesting collection of medals and badges of Honour and Award issued by the Rhodesian State. The medals and badges are housed in a hand-made polished and inlaid mahogany desk set. The desk set locks with a key that is still included with the set! The key unlocks the “let down” lid, revealing the four shelves that pull out.
The interior of the lid is velvet-lined with a brass plaque engraved: "The Livingstone Mint Rhodesian Honours and Awards Set No. 78", denoting it is part of a limited issue of 500 sets.
Each of the four drawers is lined in velvet with the medals and honours placed delicately inside. The set consists of 45 different Rhodesian honours and awards. All medals that are engravable are engraved COLLECTORS SET 78, and all are matching to this set. 35 of the 45 medals are engraved, with the other 10 being classes of the Rhodesian Legion of Merit, none of which are engraved.
The desk set when closed measures 27 ¼ x 19 ½ x 13 ¼”. There is scuffing along the corners but the set is in great shape overall. There is some oxidation on the drawer handles. The original certificate of authenticity is not present, but there is a letter from the SPINK Auction House in London dated June 25th, 1996 denoting that the COA for the lot could not be located. There is no other paperwork present with the set.
An outstanding set, very rare to find in any condition or level of completion. Ready to display.
