Original Item. Only One Available. This is an outstanding Japanese WWII Gun sight, which we believe to be for an anti-aircraft gun. We haven’t been able to find a comparable example, and so we cannot say for certain what this sight was used for, but given the reticle in the optic, we are certain it is a gun sight.
The data plate reads:
(Star Logo)
6 x 9.3°
No. 491
JES ねぢ
JES ねぢ means that it was made under "Japanese Engineering Standards". The optic is still clear, but much of the black crinkle covering on the barrel is gone. The mount appears in good order.
The optic comes in its original box with small canvas carrying strap, marked on the top with three Kanji characters which translated as box mirror eye, which is not exactly correct, but you get the idea, it is a box for the optic. The box measures 4½ x 3 x 2¼” and displays beautifully with great color.
