Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is an outstanding set consisting of a very scarce early Post-WWI era Japanese flight helmet by Iida & Co., Takashimaya. This helmet appears to have gone through a great deal of period service wear, with the data tags having been replaced several times. This helmet dates to roughly the late 1920s or 1930s, prior to the placement on the flight helmets of the star insignia.

The interior is chamois-lined and retains the maker’s label reading:

On the other side of the interior are two tags stitched on top of each other. It gives the size as 2. The label is likely from when the helmet was re-arsenaled and brought up to later standards. The chinstrap is intact with the buckle in good working order, but two of the grommets on the chinstrap have come off or are coming off. Both of the ear flaps are in good working order with functional snaps. There is some writing on the back of the helmet, mostly just numbers.

Also included is a great set of period mountain/ski goggles which retain their elastic straps but the elasticity is now entirely gone. The mesh vents are in good shape and there is still fur lining the edges. They may not be correct but they still look great and it's very possible these saw aviation use during the 20s or 30s.

This is an outstanding flight helmet set, the earliest Japanese flight helmet we’ve ever offered. Comes ready for further research and display!
