Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the captured Japanese parachute transport bag used by Captain Charles A. Olson, pilot of a B-17 Flying Fortress who served two years in missions over Australia and New Guinea, seeing heavy combat in the Burning of Rabaul, the Battle of the Bismarck sea, and more. Interestingly enough, his name is painted on both sides of the bag, once in English and once in RUSSIAN!The bag retains its data tag giving the manufacture number, date, date of repair, and manufacturer, Fujikura Aviation Industry Co., Ltd. The date appears to be Showa 14, for 1939. The bag is in great worn shape overall, a really tremendous captured bag. The most interesting part is how his name is painted in both English and Russian. The bag measures roughly 15 x 20 x 11”.Olson entered the Army Air Forces in October 1940, completing his advanced flight training at Brooks Field, Texas on May 29th, 1941, receiving his wings and commission. One month later he was transferred to Hickman field, Hawaii, and was present on December 7th, 1941, receiving his first taste of battle when the Japs attacked Nickman field. Olson worked as a copilot of a B-17 Flying Fortress in the raid over Rabaul, receiving the Silver Star Medal for this action. He was commended for bravery and heroism under fire by Lt. Gen. George C.
