Original Item. Only One Available. This is one of the scarcest Japanese blades we have ever offered. We have had very few American Diving Knives in the past, but this is the first time we have offered a Japanese example. There is next to no reference on these due to their scarcity. This is a rare survivor, as after the War it was a condition that all blades of knifes exceeding 4 inches (100mm) were to be cropped or destroyed hence very few of these Japanese knives survived.
The 6 ⅞” blade shows some scattered oxidation spotting, and unfortunately the very tip of the blade has broken off, so the original length was likely 7”. The overall length is about 12” long, and the ribbed wood handle is in fantastic condition for its age. The blade appears seated between a piece of wood which is in good order. The leather buffer is still intact as well.
The 7 ¾” alloy scabbard shows moderate oxidation spotting but retains its finish well otherwise. There are no markings we could find across the knife or its scabbard, which is correct for this model. The reference available shows that these began production around 1940. The loop for attachment of a leather strap is still intact, but the strap is gone. The scabbard still screws on just fine, and the overall length with the scabbard on is about 12 ½”.
This is an outstanding example, the rarest dive knife we have ever offered, and likely the last Japanese one we’ll ever see! Ready for display.
