Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a gorgeous Imperial German Pre-WWI era gorget issued by a Veteran’s Association, likely of veterans of the Franco-Prussian War. The gorget bears a gorgeous silver front plate with laurels and flags around a piece in the center which is engraved:
Derein ehem
160 ev
Association (Former)
160
The back of the gorget is engraved:
Gewidmesnom Derein
ehem , 65 er
Bonn d. 4.10.08
Dedicated to the Association
— A former member of the Class of '65
Bonn, October 4, 1908
On the front, the two corners have small Imperial Eagle devices. The silver is a bit tarnished but is in great shape. The engraving on the back is much clearer and dates the gorget to October 4th, 1908. Both hooks are retained for attachment of the chain.
The chain is made up of 47 chained ovular brass pieces and fits onto the gorget very well. This would be an outstanding piece to complement a Dunkelblau uniform from the Pre-WWI period. Requires a bit more research!
