Original Item: Only One Available. This highly decorative Imperial German miniature sword is patterned after the Kaiser Honor Sword tradition associated with Solingen, Germany’s celebrated “City of Blades.” Measuring only 9 5/8 inches overall, it presents the elaborate workmanship and visual presence of a full size ceremonial sword in an exceptionally compact collector’s format.
The sword’s most distinctive feature is its ornate brass colored guard, which depicts Saint George slaying the dragon beneath a crowned pommel. This figural design separates it from the standard Model 1889 Prussian Infantry Officer Sword and is consistent with miniature commemorative swords produced in Solingen during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Examples of this general form are associated with Kaiser Wilhelm II commemorative pieces, souvenirs, presentation items, and possibly salesman’s samples. We were unable to confirm the precise occasion for which this unmarked example was produced.
The spear point blade measures 7 5/8 inches and is unmarked, with no maker or other markings visible on either ricasso. The original sword knot remains attached and shows some fraying from age. Its survival adds considerably to the sword’s completeness and display appeal.
The fitted scabbard measures 8 1/4 inches and remains in good order. It retains both suspension rings, decorative suspension bands, and an ornamental drag. The bright metal finish complements the richly detailed hilt and gives the complete set an impressive appearance despite its miniature size.
This is an appealing Imperial German miniature edged weapon with strong visual character and worthwhile research potential. The Saint George guard, surviving sword knot, complete two ring scabbard, and unmarked blade make it particularly suitable for collections of Imperial German swords, Solingen production, Kaiser Wilhelm II era commemoratives, and miniature military edged weapons.
