Original Hungarian Early WWII Era Kingdom of Hungary Firefighter Dress Dagger With Ornate Blade and Brass Scabbard by Lajos Mészáros, Budapest

Regular price $995.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice example of a Royal Hungarian Firefighters Dress Dagger, complete with the original brass scabbard. These were carried during ceremonial occasions by firefighters and were not intended for combat as these Units were not Military.

The dagger has a lovely “Skull Cap” style helmet pommel, ribbed black bakelite grip, and brass crossguard featuring the Hungarian Coat of Arms on top of the “crossed hammers” insignia for firefighters. The hilt has a scabbard release button on the opposite side from the guard. The 8 7/8" blade has a lovely “gold” inlay of the Hungarian Coat of Arms and a regular etched insignia of the Fire Services. Lower down on the blade towards the tip, there appears to be a title, name and a partial (193[?]) date. We believe this to be either an early Pre War era blade or an extremely early war example.

The scabbard is the standard type seen, made of lacquered polished brass. It has the Fire Service insignia inside a wreath embossed onto both of the hanger rings.

Condition is very good, with the expected wear of age. A seldom seen dagger, ready to add to your collection!
