Original Item. Only One Available. This is an outstanding and scarce German Luftwaffe Survival Dinghy, a lifeboat or raft manufactured in a yellow rubberized fabric with one inflatable buoyancy chamber and integral water pocket on the underside. In use this would fill with water and provide stability and ballast. These were issued in Luftwaffe aircraft for bailouts over water. As shown, the raft is still inflatable and holds air without issue! The set comes with several accessories including a Paddle Oar & Foot Air Pump with Bakelite-Capped Rubber Tube, and Emergency Petrol & Water Canteens.
Note: The Mannequin and the flight helmet on its head are NOT included with the group and are only shown for display purposes.
This example retains the original data tag:
Einmannshlauchboot
Gerat-Nr. 10-5501 A-1
Anforde.. 1165684
Werk-Nr.
Hersteller: bpl
Single-Person Inflatable Boat
Equipment No. 10-5501 A-1
Requisition No. 1165684
Serial No.
Manufacturer: bpl
The code “bpl” denotes manufacture by Klepper-Werke of Rosenheim. We looked across the entire raft and found no discernable tears or holes, and we were able to inflate it making for an outstanding display. All of the pieces and rigging are intact, including the long black tube through which air is inflated. When laid out deflated, the raft measures 42 x 62”.
Some of the other markings on the inflatable boat include:
Hier einsteigen
Erst Wasserbeutel fullen
(Enter in here)
(Fill the water bag first)
Also with the boat are the items Fl. 415007 & Fl. 415006, or the Bailing Bucket and Drift Anchor. Most of the rigging appears intact and in good order. The red CO2 cartridge cylinder is in good order and retains markings.
The three-piece paddle measures 60½” when put together. The paddle is 5¼” wide. The original data plate reads:
Gerat: Bootsriemen
Bauart v. Kehler u. Stelling
Gerat-Nr: 10-55
Werk. Nr.
Anforderz. Fl. 30026
Hersteller: v. Kehler u. Stelling
There is basic wear but the set is in great shape. The foot pump is in very good condition for its age. It still works, and the bakelite fittings are in great shape. There are faint stamps in the wood but none of them are intact enough to read. The pump itself measures 7 ¼ x 9 x 12”. The rubberized tube is roughly 36” at the most we could stretch it.
The water emergency canteen is stamped on the cap ESB 42 for Eduard Sommerfeld, Berlin. The original wooden handle is retained but very worn. It and the other canteen measures 11” long without the handle.
The petrol emergency canteen is painted yellow and has a partially intact painted marking reading BENZIN / Feuergefӓbrich, but there is extreme wear as shown. The wooden handle is gone but the wire handle is still present.
These rafts do not come onto the open market often, and when they do they are often very stiff and non-inflatable.
This is the first example of this outstanding raft we have offered. Comes ready for further research and display.
