Original German WWII Tan Painted Wehrmacht Trench Lantern by Assmann-Werke Assmann & Weikert

Regular price $295.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a Wehrmacht Trench lantern, painted in the later war tan einheitsfarbe 43 (uniform color 43), which shows some great wear from age and use. The small lantern features 3 small windows, each of which has a bezel on the outside for the insertion of a blackout shield, which normally would be stored in the compartment at the rear. Unfortunately these are missing from this example. The original main burner would have been oil, however it was replaced long ago with a candle, which would have been less effective but definitely easier to source and refuel. The lantern features a nice turned wood grip at the top, held in place by the original wire loop handle.

The dimensions of the lantern are approximately 4 1/2'W x 5"D x 6 1/2" tall, making it a perfect size for various applications. It is marked on the upper left front and rear right (very faint) with maker code nkv, for Assmann-Werke Assmann & Weikert in the so-called "Sudetenland" area of occupied Czechoslovakia.

The lantern has a great "salty" service worn look that is impossible to duplicate. This would look great as part of any WWII collection!
