Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original German WWII SA Sportabzeichen für Kriegsversehrte, or Sports Badge for War Disabled Veterans, manufactured by Werner Redo of Saarlautern and RZM marked M1/100. It is a nonmagnetic example with an oxidized silver wash over what appears to be a zinc alloy body, complete with its original tapered brass pinback and displaying an attractive matured patina.

The badge was introduced in 1943 as a variant of the SA Military Sports Badge intended for men who had been wounded or disabled through wartime service. Its design closely follows the standard SA sports badge, but adds an elongated rune-like device at the bottom as a distinguishing feature.

identifying manufacture by Werner Redo. This is one of the few manufacturers of this badge, and also made many of the standard SA Sports Badges. The firm was located in Saarlautern, on the border with France. Today the town is known by its Pre-NSDAP rule name, Saarlouis, the name it has been for centuries.

The badge retains its original tapered brass pinback, which remains intact and fully functional. The silvered finish is still relatively well preserved, with age related oxidation and toning that give the piece a pleasing worn appearance.

Overall condition is very good. The body shows only light wear and oxidation, while the pin assembly remains complete and operational.

With its RZM M1/100 maker marking, Werner Redo manufacture, intact brass pinback, surviving silver wash, and distinctive war disabled sports badge configuration, this is a particularly appealing late war SA award. The oxidized finish and light age wear are fully disclosed. It would display especially well in an SA sports award, RZM marked badge, Werner Redo maker, disabled veteran award, or advanced German WWII political badge collection.

Of Note: In late 1934 items manufactured for the NSDAP and other organizations, including membership pins, came under the quality control of the RZM, Reichzeugmeisterei, (National Equipment Quartermaster) and as a result were marked with the RZM logo when appropriate. The registry was based at the Brown house in Munich and NSDAP party headquarters in Berlin. The RZM ensured that the manufacturers of military items were consistent in design, quality of materials and other characteristics of the items. It also defined standards of design, manufacturing and quality and published an authoritative color chart for textiles. The M1 in the code stands for Metal Badges, with Werner Redo of Saarlautern being contractor number 100.
