Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original German WWII Luftwaffe barracks candle lantern, or Leuchte, dated 1940 and marked with the Luftwaffe eagle and FL UV property designation. Constructed from aluminum alloy and finished in aluminized silver paint, it retains all four original frosted glass panels, its removable vented top, internal candle holder, wire carrying handle, suspension hook, and raised feet.

The lantern has a compact rectangular box form with four frosted glass panels. Each glass panel is protected externally by a pair of crossed wires, and all four panes remain intact. The front panel is hinged and secured by a catch on the left side, allowing access to the interior for replacing the candle.

The removable vented top measures approximately 7.5cm in diameter. Inside the lantern is a raised central candlestick designed to support the candle during use. The top is also fitted with a wire carrying handle and integral hanging hook, allowing the lantern to be either carried by hand or suspended for use. The bottom has four raised feet for stability along with ventilation holes to provide airflow to the candle.

Approximate dimensions are:

10 1/2" high x 5" x 5", with the overall height reaching approximately 16" including the hook assembly.

The FL UV marking is associated with Flieger Unterkunft Verwaltung, or Flight Barracks Administration, the Luftwaffe organization in charge of barracks or accommodation administration equipment. "GI BE" is a known maker of these lanterns that has not been identified.

Overall condition is very good. The aluminized silver finish remains well preserved overall, with expected age and service wear. Most notably, all four original frosted glass panels remain present and unbroken, and no major structural damage is described.

With its 1940 date, Luftwaffe eagle and FL UV markings, aluminum alloy construction, aluminized silver finish, complete frosted glass panels, wire guards, vented removable top, internal candle holder, carrying handle, hanging hook, and raised feet, this is a particularly attractive example of Luftwaffe barracks equipment. The light surface wear and age related finish changes are fully disclosed. It would display especially well in a Luftwaffe barracks equipment, field furnishings, lighting equipment, or advanced German WWII militaria collection.
