Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. Here we have a very interesting German WWII Luftwaffe radio operator's clock by Junghans, which is mounted in a wooden case and is still at least partially functional! This example is marked on the face with Junghans over FL. 25591. Opening the case reveals markings on the interior, along with the dial to wind the watch. The watch is partially functional and does move when wound, but when sitting it down, it is shown to stop moving, so it may need some repairs.
The interior of the case reads:
Eigentum der Luftwaffe
(Junghans Logo) 1939
Fl. 25591
3278
(BAL)
(638)
The back of the clock has the Junghans logo over J30D. The display stand shows very heavy wear from over the years with decades of scratches and a nice patina. It measures roughly 7 ¾ x 2 ¼ x 4 ⅝”. The back of the stand has a label reading:
Junghans J30D
Luftwaffe communications centre clock
Early version, in steel : 1939
This could be an old museum tag or maybe an auction tag from decades ago. The clock itself has had the hands degrade somewhat, with the metal interior flaking away. We do not know how badly damaged the internal works are.
These are apparently somewhat hard to find, being that many were taken home and used as clocks. A very interesting radio operator clock from WWII, ready to research and display!
