Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an outstanding German Kriegsmarine U-Boat 5x14 gun sight, manufactured by Carl Zeiss of Jena, a specialist lens maker, and one of the finest makers of optics at the time. They designed many of the optics used by Germany during WWII, and continue to produce world class lenses and other optics to this day.
This beautiful sight is marked on the top side with a large Marinewaffenamt Eagle / M proof mark over:

The code “rln” denotes manufacture by the famous Carl Zeiss, Militärabteilung Jena, who manufactured a multitude of different types of optics for the German Military.
The optic retains the lens cover, with a lid that can be opened with pressure at the front, and a rotating window, likely to differentiate between night and day. The sight has several connection points, likely meaning it could be used with a few different guns aboard the U-Boat. The side is painted with red, and on the bottom of the disc below the eyepiece is painted the number 9734. The dial on the disc is used to switch between the three different filters, meant for use in different weather conditions or time of day. The optics are still excellent.
A fascinating piece of technology that requires a great deal more research. This is the only example of this sight we could find in our research, so don’t miss out, as we will certainly never see another one. Ready for display!
