Original Item: Only One Available. This is an extremely rare example of a German WWII Kriegsmarine (Navy) Diver's Knife, complete with the original brass scabbard. Original WWII examples are almost never seen on the market, as most were lost long ago or melted down for the brass. This example is completely correct and genuine, with a lovely aged patina on the exterior. Both the pommel and scabbard are marked with the Kriegsmarine Proof Eagle / M III/8 / RE, making this a great matching set. There were several main Marinewaffenamt (MWa) or Naval Weapons Offices, and "III" in Düsseldorf was the one responsible for "Pistols, Flare Pistols, Spare Parts, and Ammunition." These had sub-officers and other departments, so we do not know what the rest of the marking means.
This example is different than others we have had as the 13 grip points are fully ridged to strengthen the grip. Condition is very good, and the blade does not appear to have been sharpened, or used much, though it is now a bit dull. The rubber sealing washer is now gone. The pommel retains a single large flathead screw. The scabbard is free of cracks and the large belt loop is in good order.
Only the third example we've ever had, ready to display!
