  • Original Item. Only One Available. The 7.5 cm Pak 40 (7,5 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 40) was a German 75 millimetre anti-tank gun of the Second World War. The gun was developed in 1939–1941 and entered service in 1942. With 23,303 examples produced, the Pak 40 formed the backbone of German anti-tank guns for the later part of World War II, mostly in towed form, but also on a number of self propelled artillery such as the Marder series of Panzerjäger. Like all decactivated ordnance, this round is Not Available for Export.

This is an incredibly scarce offering, an original round & casing for the Pak 40 Anti-Tank gun still contained within its original cylindrical transport container. The original fuze has extremely heavy oxidation and wear, as does the entire round and container. There are still faint markings on the fuze:

    kl AZ23
    cme 44

This would indicate 1944 manufacture by Gebr. Wichmann of Berlin. We have seen this maker once before, on a sight used on the Pak 40 gun. The fuze can still be unscrewed to inspect the empty interior.

The projectile shows extremely heavy oxidation and only retains faint shadows of some of the original painted markings. There is nothing discernable. The heavy casing is also heavily oxidized, with faint markings on the bottom of the casing:

    Euk-bf
    116
    va 43
    6340St
    7,5cm Pak 40

The maker code va appears to be missing a letter, so we are unsure of the maker of the casing, but we can tell it was manufactured in 1943. The round with its fuze and casing measures 39½” tall.

The original transport container shows heavy oxidation but is still complete with the lid and latch. The underside of the lid still retains a clear Waffenamt paint stamp, reading WaA / A12. The container retains the internal “guard” which the tip of the round fits into, and it still slides up and down when the container is empty. The entire container, inside and out, shows heavy oxidation and pitting. The container still retains a very faint white stencil on the side, which we can not discern well. The container measures roughly 40¾” when closed, and the carry handle still works pretty well, but one side of the handle appears to have material loss that does make it a bit weak, so please carry it from the bottom.

A good example with markings and paint retained, still in its transport container, ready for further research and display.

A modified version of the gun designed specifically for vehicle-mounting was the 7.5 cm KwK 40, which differed primarily in using more compact ammunition, thereby allowing more rounds to be carried inside the vehicles. The KwK 40 armed many of the German mid-war tank designs such as the Panzer IV, as well as tank destroyer designs, replacing the Pak 40 in the latter role.

The Pak 40 may be referred to as the 7.5/L46, referring to its calibre and the barrel's length in calibres. There were two versions of the KwK 40, which would be referred to as the 7.5/L43 or 7.5/L48.
