Item Description
Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a genuine German WWII Foreign POW Identification Tag (aka; Dog Tag) or Erkennungsmarke. The badge is made of galvanized steel and in very good condition, with just a bit of oxidation.
It is marked on each half as follows:

Nr. 106450
Allied aircrew shot down during World War II were incarcerated after interrogation in Air Force Prisoner of War camps run by the Luftwaffe, called Stalag Luft, short for Stammlager Luft or Permanent Camps for Airmen. Stalag XVII B (17B) was situated 100 meters northwest of the village of Gneixendorf. This village is located six kilometers northwest of Krems, Austria, which is why the camp is often referred to as Krems-Gneixendorf. Air Corps NCO's were held at this camp and they regretted they were not in an Air Force camp. They considered that they were entitled to a special camp and the privileges of aviators.
Included with the POW Dog Tag is detailed printed out information about the camp, specially related to American servicemen held there. However, there were also apparently British RAF POWs at the camp, as indicated by a very interesting printout from POWVETS.COM, which identifies prisoner 106450 as being Sergeant K. D. Windsor, a member of 405 Squadron, Royal Air Force. They are definitely an NCO, so this is definitely a camp that they could have been interned in. Definitely some great potential for further research.
