Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a lovely portrait painting of a German Infantry NCO, which looks to be oil on canvas. In the frame, it measures 16 1/4"W x 18 1/4", while the portrait itself measures 9 1/2" x 11 1/4”. There is a name / signature in the lower right corner, "RIER" or something similar that we can't quite make out.
The subject is wearing a standard M-36 Field Tunic, and the tresse border around the collar and litzen insignia indicates that they are an NCO. The shoulder boards have tresse borders, but are open at the edge, for the Junior NCO rank of Unteroffizier, equivalent to a U.S. Army Sergeant. There is not much more of the uniform in the portrait, however the subject is wearing an M38 Overseas cap with a Weiß (white) v-shaped soutache, the Waffenfarbe (Corps Color) during WWII for Infanterie (Infantry) and Motorisiert Infanterie (Motorized Infantry), which means that the piping on the shoulder boards is also white, just not possible to see.
Definitely an interesting piece of WW2 Memorabilia! Ready to research and display!
