Original Item: Only One Available. This is an very good aged condition, totally genuine WWII issue German Luftschutz and civilian gas mask. The mask itself is nearly identical to the German military issue. The filter still retains the original paper label in complete legible condition and is marked on the top by maker DRAEGER. We were not able to see the size marking on the mask, and it does look to have seen service, as it has the marking S.28 on the mask, can, and filnter. The mask is now relatively stiff, and the original lenses and inserts have degraded, turning an orange color and warping, though the 1937 dates are still visible on both. There is a spare set of low tint lenses still in the original wax paper in the storage compartment of the carry canister, however the paper is in delicate condition, so we did not remove them to check the date. The canister is nicely marked: DRAEGER on the top, and retains its original carrying strap, which has some minor rips and tears as shown.
The label on the filter reads S-FILTER für den zivilen Luftschutz (S-FILTER for civil air defense). The mask itself is in very stiff condition, and we would not recommend attempting to fit it to a head or attempting to change the shape. Keeping it as is or in the canister is the way to go.
Overall a lovely example of a wartime German gas mask issued to the Luftschtuz. This type was also routinely used by members of the Wehrmacht towards the end of the war when supplies were running low.
