Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very scarce piece of German aviation history. This is a data plate off of a German Mercedes D.III, or F1466 Six-Cylinder engine, famously used in a myriad of different German aircraft during World War I, to include many by Albatros, Fokker, Junkers, Pfalz, and Hansa. The data plate measures 4 ⅛ x 5 15/16”.

The serial number of the engine is 28089, and the number of cylinders is 6. The Mercedes D.III, or F1466 as it was known internally, was a six-cylinder SOHC valvetrain liquid-cooled inline aircraft engine built by Daimler and used on a wide variety of German aircraft during World War I. The initial versions were introduced in 1914 at 160 PS (118 kW), but a series of changes improved this to 170 PS (125 kW) in 1917, and 180 PS (132 kW) by mid-1918. These later models were used on almost all late-war German fighters, and its only real competition, the BMW III, was available only in very limited numbers. Compared to the Allied engines it faced, the D.III was generally outdated.

There is heavy wear across the data plate with a small strip of the metal broken off at the bottom, but all four screw holes are still intact.
