Original Item: One of a Kind. This is a lovely Pre WWII unit shooting prize plaque, looking to be made from stamped silver plated metal, and it measures 4 3/4" x 8 3/4". It is attached to a 6 1/2" x 9 3/4" wooden backing, which has a hanger on the back. The design is typically German, showing crossed Schützen Target Rifles over a target, with oak leaves and acorns surrounding it. On the right of this are more oak leaves and acorns, and on the left side is laurel leaves. There are two panels with an inscription, which reads as follows:-
EHRENPREIS
für Bestleistung
im Schiessen
v. d. Kameradschaft ehm. 1/76
Hamburg
8. Juli 1939
The basic translation is: "Honorary Prize for Outstanding Shooting Performance from the Comradeship of Former Members of 1/76, Hamburg, July 8, 1939". We assume that this was a training formation prior to the war, and at the end of their assignment the members got together to give this award to the best shooter in the group. There is no name mentioned, and we also were not able to locate any information on this unit, and leave it as a research project for the future owner.
Condition is very good, with a lovely patina. There is some wear and patination around the inscription and on the raised areas of the plaque. Definitely an interesting piece of German WWII memorabilia!
