Original Item. Only One Available. This is an outstanding porcelain statue from the 1930s of a German Dragoon in 1798 on horseback. This example is maker-marked to Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory. The Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory (German: Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg) is located at the Nördliches Schloßrondell (northern palace circle) in one of the Cavalier Houses in front of the Nymphenburg Palace in Munich, Germany, and since its establishment in 1747 has produced porcelain of high quality. It is one of the last porcelain producers in the world where every single part is made entirely by hand.
The statue measures 11 ⅝” tall with a base measuring 9 ½ x 5 ¼”. The base is inscribed:
Trommler der Bernischen Roten Dragoner
1798
Drummers of the Bernese Red Dragoons
1798
The porcelain has some heavy breakage and loss of pieces, including the majority of the sword, one of the drumsticks, and the plume for his hat is broken off as well. Thankfully these breaks aren’t too noticeable.
A really lovely porcelain depiction of a German Dragoon. It is embossed 744 / 5 on the bottom next to the maker mark for Nymphenburg.
