Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very scarce piece of French field gear from the First World War period. This M1905 mounted artillery knapsack is very difficult to find, and this one is in great service-worn condition. The pack has a two buckle front flap closure and a canvas & leather carry strap which is in good shape. The bag is made of linen or hemp fabric.
There is a stamped cartouche marking on the front flap to the right, but it is too faint to read. There are additional stamps on the underside of the flap, along with a pocket that is now missing its button. It would have had a Military equipment type aluminum or zinc button. The bag is divided into two unequal compartments.
This bag was normally worn on saddle or carriage horses. There is a page of research on the interior which was taken from 1940 Le Soldat Francais, Volume 2, by Olivier Bellec.
