Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very interesting short sword from the 19th century that we originally believed to be German, given the German maker and style, but from our research we found this to be a Danish Model 1869 “Craftsman’s Sabre”, or Håndværkersabel M/1869.
The sabre is marked on the ricasso:
P.D. LÜNESCHLOSS
SOLINGEN
This marking is for P. D. Lüneschloss, Fabrik blanker Waffen, located in the legendary blade-making city of Solingen. The company was founded in 1810 by Peter Daniel Lüneschloss, and existed well into the 20th century. During the 19th Century, they were one of Europe's leading Sword Makers of the period, and had a booming export business.
There are no other markings we can find, correct for an export example. The leather blade buffer is retained and the hilt has a lovely patina.
The brass-mounted leather scabbard is in good order with retained stitching, but there is overall finish wear. There is also heavy denting in the drag.
A scarce model, ready for display.
Approximate Dimensions:
Blade Length: 18 3/4"
Overall length: 24 1/4“
Scabbard length: 19 1/4”
