Original Item. Only One Available. This is a small brass belt buckle with the inscription “Eendragt Maakt Magt” – the official motto of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek (ZAR). The “ZAR” letters being the centre feature of this buckle. This is an extraordinarily scarce German-made buckle made for use by the Boers.
It is believed it was part of the white webbing used for the ZAR Voetpolisie, which was ordered in 1897/98 of which almost none was delivered (believed to have then been routed to America) due to the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer War - 11 October 1899. The official port for the ZAR was Lourenco Marques (now Maputo) in Mozambique by the British fleet.
An excellent example, ready for display.
