Original Early 19th Century Ottoman Flintlock Ball Butt Pistol with Wire Inlaid Stock - Circa 1800

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely OTTOMAN flintlock "ball butt" pistol made made in the classic style. These were intended to be held in a sash around the waist. It has an ornately silver wire inlaid stock, which also has many silver "rosette" inlays covering many areas. Some of these have lost the inlay material, but the design and inlets where they were are still clear. The pistol features an engraved 12 1/2 inch barrel, and has an overall length of 20 inches, about the average size for this style of pistol.

This design was very popular in the Mediterranean market, and examples have been seen from all over the former Ottoman area of influence. This example is very nice, though definitely does show wear from age and use. The stock is missing some chunks near the muzzle, and it can be seen that there was a faux ramrod fitting under the forestock, a hallmark of the Ottoman design. The pistol looks to have not been made with any provision for a trigger guard. We tested the lock, and while functional, it will fire at both full and half cock.

Dating probably from the early 1800's this is really quite nice. Ready to restore or display as is!
