Original Item: Only One Available. This Lovely flintlock Pistol dates to prior the Battle of Waterloo, however the 9th Light Dragoons did NOT take part in the great battle that finally defeated Napoleon Bonaparte in 1815. They did however play their part in the Napoleonic Wars.
The Regiment was raised in 1715 by Major General Owen Wynne in response to the Jacobite Rebellion as 9th. Regiment of Lancers. In 1751 it was re-designated to be the 9th Regiment of Light Dragoons. During the Napoleonic Wars he Regiment served at the Battle of ARROYO DOS MOLINOS in October 1811 and are credited with capturing General De Brune of the French Army. They went on to fight at the Siege of BADAJOZ in 1812. In 1816 the Regiments was again re-designated as the 9TH Regiment of Lancers, nicely dating our example to definitely having been used in the Napoleonic Wars.
The pistol is a standard full stocked flintlock pistol fitted with the NEW LAND PATTERN Swivel all steel ramrod that allowed a Cavalryman to easily reload the pistol while on horseback without fear of dropping his ramrod. Marked with Crown over G.R. and TOWER on the lock plate tail, it also has a sliding safety catch behind the hammer. In fine tight and all original condition showing British Proof marks and no restoration. It is fitted with the standard 9" .65" smooth bore barrel, which still shows visible proofs on the left side, a rare thing to see. The stock has a standard brass nose cap. The Butt Cap engraved with 9TH. L.D. / E. 39 for the 9th Regiment of (Light) Dragoons, Company "E" and "39th." Trooper.
