Original Item: Only One Available. This fighting knife was made during WWII by the Grieshaber Mfg. Co. of Chicago, Illinois. Herman Grieshaber said his company made the knife in limited quantities between 1941 & 1942. Not a contract knife, they were sold to PX stores at various US Naval Bases privately.
The knife is in fantastic condition and shows no signs of any real use. The 7 inch blade terminates in a Clip Point style, not as pronounced as the Bowie. The original factory grind is still present throughout the fine blade. The 4 ⅝” aluminum hilt is in fantastic condition with “US NAVY” on each side still fully visible with excellent detail. The only markings visible on any components is the aluminum holt, with manufacturer details stamped in very small font on the back strap of the handle.
The included leather sheath appears to be an original match to the knife and in very similar, lightly soiled condition. The leather is in solid condition and still retains all stitching, 5 rivets on the securing strap. It measures nearly 12 ½” with a belt loop.
A great and rather rare private purchase PX knife! It comes more than ready for further research and display.
