Original Item: Only One Available. This very nice service used condition summer tunic is fabricated from a white cotton material, which is both lightweight and soft, showing a standard twill weave. It features a lay down collar with an ornamental buttonhole in the left lapel. The front has vertical closure of 4 plated steel buttons with pebbled aluminum uppers meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the opposite sides. There are four pockets on the front, one on each breast and larger ones at the waist on both sides, each designed with a decorative pleat, scalloped flap, and pebbled buttons. All of the buttons except for those on the shoulders are retained by metal split rings on the back. The tunic is not lined, and there are no internal pockets, and there is no eyelet opening into the left waist pocket for an officer dagger.
The right breast above the pocket is enriched with a silvered metal breast eagle insignia pin held in place with two vertically aligned thread loops, with a horizontal loop below which attaches to a hook on the bottom. As is correct for a summer uniform, there are no collar tab insignia present. The shoulders are adorned with button-attached Heer Pioneer Corps Offiziere Schulterklappen (officer shoulder straps), constructed with two rows of fine silver flatware "Russia Braid" double piping that go around the buttonhole. The bases and straps are Schwarz (Black), which was the Waffenfarbe (corps color) during WWII for the Pioniere (Combat engineers), as well as Assault, Armored, Fortress, and Railway engineers. There are no rank "pips" installed, indicating the lowest officer rank of Leutnant (2nd Lieutenant).
Overall condition is very good, though there is definitely fraying to the fabric near the bottom edge of the tunic, as well as around the back of the collar area. The tunic looks to have seen relatively long use, and was probably laundered several times in the past. A really nice summer white Pioneer Officers uniform in lovely matured condition, with a great age toned look! More than ready to display!
