Original German WWII 1937 Dated Metropolitan Police Shako by Hans Römer with Kassel Police Marking - size 57

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice 1936 Metropolitan Police Officer's pattern Tschako, with the late pattern police green wool body and black leather trim. This replaced the original all leather style used up until that point. It has a very fine quality police officer eagle aluminum wappen (front plate) with aluminum Feldzeichen cockade (often missing) and black leather chinstrap around the "pickelhaube" style lugs. The cockade is marked on the back with the "Barred A" trademark of F. W. Assmann & Söhne of Lüdenscheid.

A great Polizei helmet (shako) as used by the metropolitan police! Unlike some of the more common ones found trimmed in brown for rural police, this tschako would have been used by the Ordnungspolizei (Order Police), the Schutzpolizei (Protection Police), or the Gemeindepolizei (Local Municipal Police), personnel.

The interior is in very good condition, with a supple leather liner that shows moderate age and use. The leather top tie string is no longer present, and the leather is a bit stiff and has probably shrunk over the years. It still bears a complete maker decal on the top of the crown, though the size is worn away:

HANS RÖMER
Echt
Fiber-Tschako

Neu-Ulm (Donau)

We also checked on the under side of the liner, and there is a size 57 stamp, as well as a 1937 date. It also has a unit marking that looks to read S.P. / Kassel, indicating issue to the Schutzpolizei in the German City of Kassel, which is exactly the type of location it would have been used in.

The vents are present and in good condition, however the sliding vent cover on the right side is stuck, while the left side is missing. The field green felt exterior is in great shape, and doesn't look to have had any moth damage or major wear during service. The leather trim is in good shape, with a nice lightly worn look, showing some checking in the black leather finish due to age. The chin strap is in fantastic shape, and looks like it may be a later war replacement.

Overall it is offered in very good condition from one of Germany's best manufactures of the time. Ready to display!
