Original Item: Only One Available. Now this is an incredible example of an early WWI Imperial German Feldmütze which features a Kingdom of Prussia cockade. Most of these dunkelblau field caps we come across are often regiment marked but too faded to read, not this one!
This cap is constructed of a fine dark blue wool with red piping around the top circumference and a 1” red wool band going around the lower circumference of the cap as well. The front features two lovely single piece stamped cockades as used by Mannschaften “other ranks”. The Mannschaften (Other Ranks) Kokarde was stamped one-piece metal painted in the national colors with two holes on the front to allow it to be sewn to the Feldmütze. In 1842 they introduced a Preußen Kokarde in the national colors of black/white/black which was worn on the center of the Feldmütze band, though this one is above the band. The red band features the cockade for Prussia. Both cockades are retained quite nicely and without any extensive damage. There is no size visible though it appears to be approximately 55 ½.
The exterior exhibits a lovely color with minimal fading and scattered moth nips. The interior lining is a cream colored heavy cotton which does have some staining present but it is still fully attached with no stitching loss.
This is a wonderful example of a hard to find Imperial German field cap. Comes more than ready for further research and display.
