Original German WWII Army Heer Transitional M18 Double Decal Miniature Helmet Desk Ornament on Marble Base - dated 1939

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Well this is definitely an interesting piece of German WWII military history! Here we have a very nice miniature Heer Army Transitional M18 "Double Decal" helmet, which looks to be made from plated zinc. It has the WWII type decals embossed on the exterior, and the vent lugs of a WWII helmet. It has been made into a lovely desk ornament, attached to a marble base measuring about 5" x 3 1/2" x 3/4". On the bottom of the marble base it is marked with Zweibrücken / 1939, which has been chiseled into the marble itself.

The miniature helmet itself measures about 3 3/4" long by 2/8" wide, and looks very much like a Pre-War "Wedding Helmet" or "Honeymoon Helmet", which allowed wedding ceremonies to take place in the absence of the groom while they were deployed. During the ceremony, the bride would place her hand on the helmet and take the marriage vows in the soldiers absence. This method was approved by the NSDAP government as binding and official, and was a way to avoid disruptions, as so many young men were at the front fighting during the war. Definitely a unique solution to a problem faced world wide.

A great piece of of German WWII Era militaria, perfect for a desk display piece!
