Original Item: Only One Available. This is a great representation of a rather rare Imperial German WWI poster. The poster itself does appear to have been stored improperly and it was exposed to the elements, but still retains a great image. Propaganda in the form of posters, postcards, and trade cards flourished during World War I due to developments in print technology that had begun in the 19th century. Governments on both sides of the conflict invested in printed matter that rallied public sentiments of nationalism and support for the war while also encouraging animosity toward the enemy.

The poster features an image of a full-length depiction of a German soldier carrying a heavy backpack. He looks up at a signpost that points the way to a soldier's service club. The club can be seen in the distance, across a snow-covered landscape, with a Bremen flag flying on the roof and smoke rising from its chimney. The main text reads as: SOLDATEN HEIM BREMER ROLAND 4 BREMER SOLDATENHEIME HINTER DER FRONT [Soldiers' Recreation Centre, Bremen. Roland. 4 Bremen Soldiers' Recreation Centres behind the Front.] The title is integrated and positioned in the lower left and across the bottom edge, in green. The text is integrated and positioned in the upper left, in blue. All set against a white background. The poster was designed by Bremen base artist Magdalena Koll who launched her career by designing war posters.

The overall condition of the poster is quite worn with some heavy water damage and tearing. The colors are still mostly present and visible, however there is some fading to the colors, mostly located towards the bottom with the water damage. If you were to put this poster on a backing with a matte and frame it would bring back life into the poster.
