Original German WWII Officer Lion Head Sword by P.D. Lüneschloss

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a beautiful classic Lionhead German WWII Officer sword. The all brass hilt consists of a finely detailed lion head cat with oak leaf backstrap and "P" guard. The cat is fitted with blood red faceted "jewel" eyes. Nice detail throughout his whiskers, chin, and muzzle. The handwork is beautifully rendered throughout this brass. The backstrap consists of raised out oak leaves with double leaves flowing into the side tabs. The "D" guard has raised out oak leafing as does the ferrule.

The crossguard has an open winged eagle which looks to the viewer's left. The breast area of this eagle, as well as the legs and the wreath enclosing the swas, have all been hand enhanced. The brass alloy hilt still has a good degree of the original gilded finish, making it very attractive.

The scabbard of this example still has good original factory black lacquer, it is retained at 98% with no dents.

The grip is an outstanding black celluloid-over-wood base. It is wrapped with triple-twisted brass wire, the center being larger. The wire is all present but is la bit loose in a few places.

The blade of this example is really something. This blade is a highest quality example still remaining bright finish and in nearly mint condition. The blade measures 33 inches in length. The reverse ricasso is stamped P.D. LÜNESCHLOSS / SOLINGEN in a circle, surrounding their trademark "Roman Helmet and Short Sword" logo. Unfortunately the chappe/rainguard completely covers this area, so photographing the logo is impossible.

Overall an very good condition high quality sword from a rare maker!
