Item Description

Original Item: Only One Set Available. This is an excellent shadow box containing 3 lovely items that were presented to Colonel Harry C. Burkhalter by the Republic of China Army Commander in Chief, General Yu Hao-Chang on December 20, 1969. This was all done upon the completion of Burkhalter’s tour of duty at the Republic of China Army Armor Training Command. The Armored Training Command of the Army of the Republic of China is located in Changling Village, Hsinchu County, Taiwan. It is referred to as the Armored Training Department. It is the training and development unit for the officers and soldiers of the Armored Force of the Republic of China. However, the training of armored infantry and anti-armor is in the Infantry Training Department, and the training of armored artillery is in the Artillery Training Department. In December 2013, the Army Armored Forces Training Command and Armored Forces School was renamed "Army Armored Forces Training Command".

This came to us from the American Armoured Foundation, Inc. Tank and Ordnance Memorial Museum. The AAF Tank Museum was a living memorial dedicated to the Tank and Cavalry soldiers of the world. Before 1981 some of the artifacts that make up the AAF Tank Museum was a private collection belonging to Mr. William Gasser. Mr. Gasser felt that his collection would be beneficial in educating present and future generations to the sacrifices made and the technologies gained during war. Therefore, in 1981 the AAF Tank Museum was established as a non-profit charitable organization, and Mr. Gasser donated his private collection to the Tank Museum. Mr. Gasser is still active as Volunteer Director and Curator of the Tank Museum and his knowledge of military history has been a great asset to the museum. Unfortunately after 20 years of operation it had to close its doors, which is when this was acquired.

The display set is in fantastic condition with all details still easily discernible with great colors. All items are secured to the shadow box via wire on the corners of the plaques. There is no significant damage present.

A lovely set that comes more than ready for further research and display.
