Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. On August 1st, 1876, Colorado was officially recognized as the 38th State of the United States of America. The following year, on July 4th, the 38 Star Flag was officially adopted as the national flag of the US. This flag remained in use for a period of 13 years until between July 4th 1889 and July 4th 1890, when five new states joined the union, leading to the introduction of the 43 Star Flag.

The 38-star flags are a rare and desirable flag due to their limited production time and age. This particular United States National Flag measures an impressive 66" x 96" in size and features a canvas header, making it a fitting display piece for any collection.

The flag body is composed of a multi-piece cotton canvas construction, with the stars intricately sewn onto the canton. The style and condition of the flag are highly indicative of a date very close to 1890. However, it is evident that the flag has experienced a significant amount of wear and tear, as is evidenced by its pronounced age toning, rips, and tears. Furthermore, the colors have extensively faded over time. The flag's current state is quite worn, with visible sections missing and heavy tearing that is clearly depicted in the accompanying photographs.

The header is very faintly marked with FRANK WILSON and can only really be seen in certain light. The document accompanying flag is Wilson’s original discharge paper for his 5 year enlistment, receiving this in 1879.

A very nice example, ready for further research and display!
