Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The Russian Army adopted the Model 1917 Chemical Hand Grenade in 1917. It was designed by Vladimir Rdultovsky, who also designed the RG-14 hand grenade. M1917 grenades were filled mostly with Chloropicrin (PS), a toxic tear/nausea gas capable of penetrating standard gas masks. They were used in WWI and in the Russian Civil war. The last manual for this grenade appeared in 1927, and there is no accurate information as to when the M1917 was withdrawn from service.

This example is completely void of any explosive and chemical content, making it safe to handle. It is in total compliance with the current BATF standards governing ordnance and is not available for export.

The M1917 is a modified and larger M1914 that expels chemical gas when it "detonates". The primary chemical agent in this grenade is 500g of Chloropicrin, which is an irritant. The M1917 can be told apart from the M1914 because it is larger than the M1914 and has a skull and crossbones on it with the Russian word for chemical underneath the image which is still present on this example.

This example is in good condition with legible markings and all components appearing to “function” properly.

A great, rare example ready for further research and display.
